Why seal a driveway
Concrete is porous. Left bare, it soaks up oil, tyre marks and moisture, and the colour bakes out in the sun. Plenty of Shire homes have stamped or coloured driveways from decades ago that now look patchy, even after a clean.
A colour seal restores an even finish and gives the surface a protective layer, so spills sit on top instead of soaking in. It's one of the most noticeable changes you can make to the front of a house, and much cheaper than replacing the concrete.
What's involved
- Clean and degrease. The surface is pressure cleaned and degreased so the sealer can bond.
- Prepare. Nearby walls, gardens and edges are protected.
- First coat. Colour sealer is applied evenly across the whole area.
- Second coat. A second coat builds the colour and protection.
- Cure. Cars stay off for about 24–48 hours; you'll get aftercare steps.

How much does driveway sealing cost?
A driveway clean and colour seal is from $25 per square metre. The final price depends on the area, the concrete's condition and how much preparation it needs, and it's fixed in your written quote.
How long before I can drive on it?
Keep cars off a freshly sealed driveway for about 24 to 48 hours so the sealer can cure. You'll get aftercare steps for your job.
Can old, faded concrete be sealed?
In most cases, yes. It's cleaned and prepared first, then two coats of colour sealer go on. Badly cracked or crumbling concrete is a different job, and we'll tell you if sealing won't help.
Will a sealed driveway be slippery?
Slip resistance is assessed for your surface before sealing, which matters on the steeper Shire driveways. Ask about it when you get your quote.

Stamped and coloured concrete
Stamped and coloured driveways were popular for years, and many in the Shire have now lost most of their colour. Re-sealing them in a matching or darker tone brings the pattern back out, as in the photo above. Plain grey concrete can be sealed too, either clear-ish to protect it or in a colour to freshen the front of the house.
